Hello, welcome to Fatara World, and my World!
|
Perth City, Capital of Western Australia |
I live near Perth, the capital of the exciting and very beautiful state of Western Australia. There are many places here that inspire me to create my art, especially the South West of our great continent, and in particular, the countryside from Walpole to Albany. Not many people around the world know of the great Karri tree forests just North of Walpole.

Karri Tree forest, Walpole, Western Australia |
| The stands of timber there grow in excess of 300 feet in height, and when you’re in the midst of all this, the effect is simply overwhelming! This is a treasure that as citizens of the world, we must must sustain and protect for all time and all peoples.
I spend a lot of my time creating and thinking about art. It’s a wonderful vocation, and I immensely enjoy exploring every artistic possibility in the quest to bring the hidden and mysterious to life in my works.
I began my art using traditional media such as pencil, ink, crayon, acrylic and oil paints. Today, I am a devotee of Adobe Photoshop. It’s such a splendid media, offering speed and extraordinary diversity; allowing me to go beyond the normal constraints of traditional materials. I really have a lot of fun devising new techniques with tool and
filter options.

I was born in the county of Worcestershire, England, and started to draw and paint from around the age of three. I was very encouraged to do so by my parents, even though I went through more pencils, paints and paper than could be afforded!
It was in 1967 that mum and dad decided the family should emigrate to Australia. I vaguely remember the long flight from London, but I do remember the fun of constantly running up and down the aisle of the plane, chasing my young brother!
We soon settled into our new life, and my first ever ‘art exhibition’ was at school when 12, after which I went on to win quite a few art awards. But being the non-conformist that I am, I chose to leave school when I reached 15, despite my teachers and mentors urging me to develop my talents through university. |

| Not quite sure of the future, I decided to explore the field of graphic design at technical college. But very soon, this in itself became too restricting. My work was becoming contrived and lacked excitement. So, I left college within that first year. Now, I focused more on my own private world of art, whilst earning a living at part time jobs here and there. But, being ever restless, I again longed to be involved with art and fellow artists, even though college had been restrictive in the past. I felt I could protect my art better this time, so I decided to give it another try. After three years full study, I achieved a Diploma in Graphic Design, also winning the prestigious 'John Lunghi award for Outstanding Artistic Design'. |

I briefly met my future husband, Will, at this college, who was a part-time student studying animation and graphics. By pure chance, we met again, and after a brief courtship, we married! Actually, it was during our honeymoon that I began working on a faery book. I wrote the story entitled ‘Chrysella’. The main character of the story was to be my first serious faery piece, and from there onwards, I grew more and more in love with the world of mystery.
Although now I paint many subjects, people still want to see my faeries and mermaids the most. My aim above all is to bring realism into mystery, and I hope I keep succeeding! |
